External Engagement/Conferences

Obviously, the Alliance's message resonates with informatics professionals in life science R&D. But in 2010, Ian Harrow took the message to some less obvious, but no less important, audiences. After speaking at the Association of Learned and Professional Society Publishers (ALPSP) workshop in May (a presentation and MP3 recording is available in Basecamp), Ian Harrow spoke in October at the International Conference on Trends for Scientific Information Professionals. View Ian's presentation.

"This audience comes from a largely paper-driven world, so they were very interested in Pistoia's vision of electronic brokering that we're piloting with SESL," Ian said. "It's outside-the-box thinking that only an organization like Pistoia can champion. That's because we have a diverse membership that sits on the boundaries between fields, which is where the most exciting things in science tend to happen." Ian noted that two user organizations, one vendor, and an analogous standards organization all approached him during the conference to discuss how to get involved with the Alliance.

Several conferences are planned for the first quarter of 2011, which you can view in Basecamp.
