The Pistoia Alliance, a global, non-profit, precompetitive alliance of life science companies, technology vendors, publishers, and academics,held its first conference and members’ meeting on April 12, 2011, at the campus of Thomson Reuters in Boston, MA. The event, which was only announced at the beginning of March, reached attendance capacity in just one week. Nearly 100 attendees representing about 45 pharma and biotech companies, instrumentation and software vendors, publishers, and academic institutions attended the conference. Those in attendance praised the conference's energy and focus.

This open meeting of the Pistoia Alliance Technical Committee tackled issues associated with publishing data in open data formats and how to create and build structured queries over HTTP. Speakers discussed RDF and OData. A recording of the webinar is available.
10 October 2011 - Information Ecosystem Workshop
The Pistoia Alliance held an interactive workshop in Hannover, Germany, to describe the evolving "information ecosystem" in biomedical and pharmaceutical research and determine strategies for collaboratively shaping this ecosystem to maximum advantage. About 40 participants representing the pharmaceutical industry, software and systems vendor community, information technology industry, commercial content providers, and academia attended the workshop. Attendees praised the engaged discussion. "Ultimately, it depends on the follow through from here," said one attendee.
