Join the alliance
Pistoia Alliance members determine how and when the Pistoia Alliance Standards and specifications will be initiated, upgraded, expanded and enhanced, which can benefit the life science industry.
Vertical and cross-industry needs are served through "working groups" that tailor the platform without compromising the integrity of the Pistoia Alliance architecture. Current expert groups are listed.
Pistoia has three categories of membership with different rights attached in terms of influencing Pistoia strategy but enable all members to participate in the working groups.
More details of the membership rights are included in the Pistoia Byelaws document.

Membership FAQ
Pistoia welcome members from all organisations and groups or as sole contributors. Similar to many other groups and Open Source projects we need to ensure that the contributions that you make to Pistoia have the correct permissions and sign off from your employer where applicable. Its likely that you should encourage your Life Science employer to join rather than join as an individual. We can help you make the case for this to show the benefits of joining.
- I work in a University or similar organisation, how can I join?
You have some choices here as to how you wish to join. If you would like your University or University department to join, then you should contact the Head of Department about the department joining.
If you would like to join as an individual then you need to be clear whether you will solely be representing yourself or also representing your employer. Think of Pistoia as similar to an Open Source project and ask whether the contributions that you make to Pistoia will be made on behalf of your employer or yourself as an individual.
If you are sure that you can make these contributions as an individual then please complete the application solely as an individual.
- I would like my department to join Pistoia
If your University Department would like to join Pistoia, then we suggest you talk with your Head of Department about the legal process. If at some later time another part of the same University wishes to join then we would ask that the two applications are merged for the purposes of Pistoia. This ensures fairness of representation within Pistoia and for voting rights etc.
Please fill in the membership form as an individual, signing the declaration as appropriate. This will mean that all your contributions to Pistoia will be made on your behalf and should not be associated with your employer unless you have your employer's permission. We have other members with this situation and have successfully helped them to join Pistoia. Please contact our company secretary.
