This week marks the start of Phase 2 of the sequence services project, and it’s pretty exciting to see a Pistoia project progressing past its initial focus and taking things to the next level.
Of course, we couldn’t have made it without all the great work accomplished in Phase 1. We had four vendors offer up proof-of-concept systems that demonstrated the ability to securely access public and private gene sequence data in the cloud. Phase 2 will apply all the great stuff we learned in Phase 1 to the onerous task of managing next-generation sequencing data.
You can download the Phase 2 RFP today from the sequence services page of our website. We’re hoping to get several vendors interested in participating. I’ll be discussing some of the logistics surrounding Phase 2, including information on timelines and shared-risk funding for the project, in a teleconference and webinar on Friday, July 22, 2011. We know the RFP is asking a lot, but we also think that a lot can be accomplished in three months based on our learnings from Phase 1. If you’re a vendor with a stake in supporting the secure management of NGS data, I hope you will attend the meeting and consider submitting a demonstrator. And if you’re a consumer or owner of NGS data, you’ll want to hear about our vision for sequence services Phase 2 and perhaps step up to test out the vendor submissions this fall.
Hope to see you at the meeting this Friday!
Simon,
I hope you will be so kind as to share your learnings from this meeting, there is extensive interest in this initiative and we’d all really like to benefit from your insight and expertise.
