Today we announced the winner of the Pistoia Alliance Sequence Squeeze Competition. James Bonfield, a member of the sequencing informatics team at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute, has received the US$15,000 prize for developing the best new algorithm for compressing next-generation sequencing (NGS) data.
The conference, to be held just before the start of the Bio-IT World Conference and Expo, will showcase several Pistoia Alliance projects aiming to improve the management and analysis of next-generation sequencing (NGS) data.
Pistoia Alliance Spurs Development of Next-Generation Sequencing Data Compression Algorithm with US$15,000 Prize
We have launched the Pistoia Alliance Sequence Squeeze competition to find the best algorithm for compressing next-generation sequencing (NGS) data. The winning entrant will receive a prize of US$15,000, which will be awarded by a prestigious judging panel that includes representatives from the BGI and the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute.
Pharma companies and life science technology vendors collaborate to develop cloud-based, shared-services platforms for storing and analyzing gene sequencing data.
Lowering Barriers to R&D Innovation
We are a global, not-for-profit alliance of life science companies, vendors, publishers, and academic groups that work together to lower barriers to innovation in R&D.
Our projects transform R&D innovation through pre-competitive collaboration. We bring together the key constituents to identify the root causes that lead to R&D inefficiencies. We develop best practices and technology pilots to overcome common obstacles.
Our members collaborate as equals on open projects that generate significant value for the worldwide life sciences community.
With the launch of our Interactive Project Portfolio Platform (IP3) we are embracing a new level of openness, access, and transparency around our idea-to-project process. The platform is open to the public to submit new ideas, comment and vote on proposed ideas, and monitor the progress of our projects.
Contest will see startup companies compete to develop new ways to improve innovation in life sciences R&D.
The Chemical Safety Library project (CSL) is pleased to release an RFP to build a prototype tool that will be used to enter new hazardous reaction information, store it and enable simple searching on the data held. The vision for the tool, being to make previously unaccessible hazardous reaction information available to the right people at the right time.
