Today we announced the winner of the Pistoia Alliance Sequence Squeeze Competition. James Bonfield, a member of the sequencing informatics team at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute, has received the US$15,000 prize for developing the best new algorithm for compressing next-generation sequencing (NGS) data.
The conference, to be held just before the start of the Bio-IT World Conference and Expo, will showcase several Pistoia Alliance projects aiming to improve the management and analysis of next-generation sequencing (NGS) data.

We have launched the Pistoia Alliance Sequence Squeeze competition to find the best algorithm for compressing next-generation sequencing (NGS) data. The winning entrant will receive a prize of US$15,000, which will be awarded by a prestigious judging panel that includes representatives from the BGI and the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute.

The Chemical Safety Library project (CSL) is pleased to release an RFP to build a prototype tool that will be used to enter new hazardous reaction information, store it and enable simple searching on the data held. The vision for the tool, being to make previously unaccessible hazardous reaction information available to the right people at the right time.
