Diversity and Innovation To Tackle The Big Life Science Challenges

Wilmington, DE, 11 March 2015 – The Pistoia Alliance, a global, not-for-profit alliance of life science organizations that work together to lower barriers to innovation in R&D, has announced the line-up for its 2015 Spring Conference.

The conference, which is being held on 14th April in Zurich, Switzerland, will focus on the theme of “Big Innovation”. It will bring together a diverse group of industry experts to discuss their experiences in delivering large strategic innovation projects, rather than the smaller tactical day-to-day issues, from which delegates will be able to draw inspiration for the development of future Pistoia Alliance projects that will benefit the entire life sciences industry.

Michael Braxenthaler, President of the Pistoia Alliance said:

“Over the past few years, the Pistoia Alliance has significantly helped the pharma industry through projects such as HELM (Hierarchical Editing Language for Macromolecules) and CSCS (Controlled Substance Compliance Services). However, the industry as a whole is still facing large strategic challenges, which may well prove bigger than one company or organization. We hope that by bringing together a group of experts from across the life sciences industry we can start to develop ideas and projects that we can use to help the sector face its many challenges.”

The conference, which is sponsored by Hewlett Packard, will hear presentations from PwC, FrieslandCampina, Exostar, Erasmus MC, and BioReference Laboratories, and from Pistoia Alliance members Bayer, Genestack, Roche, and Novartis.

In addition to discussing new approaches for strategic innovation, delegates will hear about the latest developments from the Pistoia Alliance including updates about its existing projects and plans for the next phase of its project portfolio. A closing discussion involving representatives from the IMI, OpenPHACTs, the Allotrope Foundation, and the Global Alliance for Genomics and Health will look into the landscape of industry associations and how this diversity may be built upon to increase innovation across the board.
